Co-op Living Freehold Society

Eco housing in Manchester

The Co-op Living Freehold Society (CLFS) are looking to purchase and renovate another property, having successfully restored a large eco-house in Withington which is now occupied by six people who form the Cordata Housing Co-op.

The co-op is looking to release equity from their existing property to renovate a derelict building which they have taken over from another housing co-op. They plan to create a multi-occupant single house co-op, similar to Cordata, which will be home to at least four people.

The development is supported by local councillors and neighbours who are keen that the derelict building is brought back to life.

Broughton Trust

Supported housing in Salford

Salford City Council are building up to 200 new homes on five sites with one of the sites dedicated to community-led housing

In partnership with Salford City Council, the Broughton Trust will become the Registered Provider of the community-led homes, acting as the landlord.

The 46 social rented homes will offer supported housing and homes for people who have been homeless.

They have appointed architects and have obtained Homes England revenue funding to develop the project.

Chorlton Community Land Trust

Sustainable housing in Chorlton

The Chorlton Community Land Trust (CCLT) has three live projects.

It to seeking to influence plans for some land in Chorlton should it be sold for housing. CCLT have developed a set of expectations for development including a substantial proportion of affordable homes, a cohousing scheme, and a zero carbon development overall; including increased biodiversity and sustainable travel measures.

In partnership with a commercial developer, CCLT is seeking to purchase a former cinema owned by the Co-op. It would be transformed in to a community-owned food, drink, entertainment, recreational and arts market; and celebrate its association with the Bee Gees.

CCLT is also supporting an ambitious neighbourhood visioning and master planning project for the commercial areas of Chorlton.

Indian Association, Oldham

Homes for older people in Oldham

The Indian Association runs a community centre in Oldham. They have identified a need for community-led housing for elderly members who often live alone in three-bed homes in the area.

The association is interested in building 20-35 affordable homes on two separate sites and have successfully made an application to Homes England for £46,000 of grant funding.

At one site they plan build a sheltered housing scheme of 20 apartments on land they already own. At the other they are looking to potentially purchase land to build a further 15 units.

The project has the potential to address loneliness amongst the elderly and under occupation.

Langley Estate Forum

70 new homes in Rochdale

The Langley Estate Forum is looking to develop a housing co-operative on the Langley Estate.

There are potentially five plots available for redevelopment which are owned by Riverside and Rochdale Council via a landpool agreement.

The Langley Estate Forum hope to build up to up to 60 units on a site owned by Riverside and 10 units on a second site owned by the Council.

Rochdale Councillors are supportive and Riverside have agreed to provide the land for free.

We’re supporting the Community Group to set up a Community Benefit Society using Resonance Investment Funding which has recently been launched.

Seedley & Langworthy Trust & Inspiring Communities Together

28 new homes in Salford

The Seedley and Langworthy Trust is planning to merge with ‘Inspiring Communities Together’ (ICT), another local not for profit organisation.

ICT is currently working with Salix Homes to develop 68 mixed tenure homes on council owned land. A planning application has been submitted. As part of the development there is an agreement in principle to allow ICT to purchase five homes at market value.

A second site managed by the council has been identified for developing a new build scheme with ICT taking ownership of 23 units

ICT has received Homes England stage one funding and have commissioned an advisor to apply to create a Registered Provider called Inspiring Housing Ltd.
